Since the dawn of motor vehicles, efforts have been made to make them safer. And they continue to persist till this day, even as newer dangers keep cropping up and safer methods keep getting discovered. Cars in India are being tested for their safety under the international New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Apart from crash tests, there are several other assessments that are done under the program for rating the cars on the basis of their safety. Let us take a look at what the NCAP has described as the safest cars that can be driven in India.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon didn't take much time to become a huge hit in India. That's mainly due to the low price at which this SUV is being offered. Despite that though, there aren't many compromises being made by it, especially not in the safety department. The car's cabin is built with a high-strength steel structure that absorbs impact energy to protect passengers. Dual front airbags are standard on all models, while technologies like ABS, Electronic Traction Control, Emergency Brake assist, Roll-over Mitigation, and more offer further protection.

Another offering from Tata has made it to this list of the safest cars for Indian roads. Its chassis has been built on what Tata calls the ALFA architecture, which is short for Agile, Light, Flexible, and Advanced. Among other things, this gives the car energy-absorbing capabilities in case of a crash. The car comes with dual front airbags and a host of other technical features aimed at the safety of its passengers.

Mahindra XUV 300

This SUV from Mahindra is another car that has scored 5 stars on the NCAP safety test. Its bodyshell integrity has been of particular praise. It offers customers as many as 50 safety features that include 7 airbags, disc brakes on all 4 wheels, front parking sensors and heated ORVMs. The car itself is a pleasure to drive owing to the immense stability it offers. Whether it's the manual or automatic version, the Mahindra XUV 300 thoroughly impresses, especially when you look at its price.

Tata Punch

It's no surprise that there's yet another Tata vehicle on this list, given the company's commitment to offering maximum safety to its buyers. The Punch benefits from a bold design and offers class-leading comfort to all its passengers. Its safety features include dual airbags that come as standard and a heavily fortified cabin for absorbing strong impacts.

Mahindra's latest offering is the safest car in India according to the NCAP. The feature-packed SUV offers so many safety features that it's hard to believe its price. You get a 7-airbag system on this vehicle, while there's even a 360-degree camera onboard. This advanced car also offers a Driver Drowsiness system that detects when the driver is dozing off and alerts them of the danger.
