14 Most Fuel-Efficient Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Cars

Protect Yourself From Rising Gas Prices

Gas prices are on the rise and putting a crimp on family budgets. While more automakers are beginning to buy into electrification, hybrids and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) cost less than fully electric cars, and they’ll still save you a significant amount of money at the pump.

In the following slides, we provide information about each car’s starting price, EPA combined city/highway fuel economy and EPA annual fuel cost. In addition, we share details about each hybrid car and PHEV’s main pros and cons related to performance, interior space and comfort, crash test ratings and notable standard features.

We ranked the most fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in-hybrid cars based on the EPA’s annual fuel cost estimates. In the event of a tie, we gave the win to the car with the lower starting price. We rank the most fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs in a separate article.

Keep in mind, we update our scores and rankings on a regular basis as new data and expert research become available. So, the scores in this article may not match up with the scores in our rankings. Check out each car’s individual review for the most up-to-date information.
