Carscoops The Second-Row Seats In 1,160 Chrysler Minivans May Not Be Properly Secured To The Floor

Chrysler is recalling the 2021-2022 Pacifica and the 2021 Voyager as a result of a problematic latch. It’s an important one, though, as it keeps the second-row seat affixed to the floor of the vehicle.

The company will recall 1,094 Pacificas made between October 4, 2021, and October 28, 2021, as well as 66 Voyagers made between October 7, 2021, and October 20, 2021. In all, just one percent of the 1,160 vehicles involved in the recall are likely to contain the bad latch.

The problem comes down to a second-row seat-to-floor mounting latch that may bind and stick open, preventing the seat from properly securing to the floor. That’s alarming for minivan owners, especially, who are quite likely to be parents putting their kids in those seats.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the seat may fail to meet regulations requiring lower anchorages on seats not to be displaced by more than 150 mm (5.5 inches) when a force of 5,000 N is applied in a lateral direction. The flaw could increase the risk of injury in an accident.

As a result, Chrysler will call the affected vehicles back to a dealership for inspection. If necessary, technicians will replace the second-row seat cushion frame with a seat-to-floor mounting latch that properly secures it to the floor. The automaker plans to start notifying owners of the recall on May 13.
