Honda Australia has revealed full pricing and specs for its 2022 HR-V small SUV line-up ahead of its launch next month.
The big news is the arrival of the e:HEV L variant that ushers in a hybrid powertrain for Honda’s HR-V, which comes in at $45,000 drive-away.
This puts it up against the likes of the Toyota C-HR Hybrid ($37,665 before on-road costs for Koba or GR Sport trims), Subaru XV Hybrid (from $35,490) and Kia Niro Hybrid (from $39,990).
This also makes the top-spec HR-V cheaper than the 2022 Civic range, which is available in a single, high-spec VTi-LX grade priced at $47,200 drive-away.
For the spend, buyers are treated to a powertrain pairing a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, which sends drive to the front wheels via a specially tuned continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The result is a 96kW/253Nm system output, while fuel economy is pegged at 4.3 litres per 100km.
Customers can also opt for the entry-level Vi X variant, priced at $36,700 drive-away, which Honda says is positioned between the outgoing VTi-S and RS grades.
The HR-V Vi X is propelled by a 1.5-litre petrol engine outputting 89kW/145Nm to the front wheels via a CVT, returning a fuel consumption figure of 5.8L/100km.
Standard equipment includes a 9.0-inch multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay, in-built satellite navigation, digital radio, 18-inch alloy wheels, engine start/stop technology, and rear privacy glass.
On the safety front, the 2022 HR-V comes equipped with Honda’s Sensing suite, which includes forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist and traffic sign recognition, as well as front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Stepping up to the e:HEV L adds a powered tailgate, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, LED cornering lights, leather steering wheel, heated front seats and steering wheel, and rear air vents and USB ports.
The flagship HR-V also gains blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert in addition to the Vi X’s safety gear.
Buyers also have a choice between five exterior colours, with the ‘hero colour’ for the new HR-V being Premium Opal.
The new-gen HR-V features 304 litres of boot volume, swelling to 1274L with the second-row folded.
However, full-sized families should take note that the 2022 HR-V only has seating capacity for four occupants.
